Born March 5, 1997, in Ploiești, Romania, Victor Dorobantu is a close-up magician turned actor. Before joining the cast of Wednesday, he gained experience performing intricate sleight-of-hand magic at public and private events across Romania . His dexterity and comfort with repetitive, precise hand movements—as well as his guitar-playing—were instrumental in landing his role as Thing.
Career Highlights
Victor made his acting debut portraying Thing (often called “Mănuță” in Romanian press) in Tim Burton’s Netflix series Wednesday (Season 1, 2022). Selected from magicians nationwide during casting visits to Romania, Burton and producers were impressed by his technical hand skill and unique personality. In the role, he wore a chroma-key bodysuit, often working in cold and confined settings, and collaborated closely with VFX designers to express emotion solely through hand gestures—taking inspiration from sign language, military signals, and other forms of nonverbal communication. For Season 2, he became the only Romanian actor to reprise his role and also served as an official “influencer” for behind-the-scenes promotion. Reddit fans praised his debut as “phenomenal” and noted his performance made viewers “understand him & feel things” purely through a hand.
