Early life & career highlights

Lee Hee‑joon’s early journey began amid a shift from engineering to the arts. After a life-changing car accident before military enlistment, he found his calling in theater, performing in children’s plays and studying Stanislavsky methods. His screen debut came in the late 1990s in short films and theater, eventually transitioning into minor roles in supporting films like The Unjust and The Yellow Sea in 2010.

In 2012, he gained major breakthrough with the KBS2 family drama You Who Rolled In Unexpectedly (My Husband Got a Family), earning him the Best New Actor award at the 49th Baeksang Arts Awards. This led to notable supporting roles in The Queen of Office (2013), Steal Heart (2014), and later cinematic projects like 1987: When the Day Comes (2017) and Miss Baek (2018). In 2020, he earned the Best Supporting Actor trophy at the Buil Film Awards for The Man Standing Next.

On television, Lee Hee‑joon expanded into a variety of genres: fantasy-comedy (Legend of the Blue Sea, 2016), crime-thrillers (Mouse, 2021) and more recently A Killer Paradox (2024).

Role in The Legend of the Blue Sea

In the SBS hit Legend of the Blue Sea (2016–17), Lee portrayed Jo Nam‑doo, part of a con-artist trio alongside Lee Min‑ho and Shin Won‑ho. His character—affable and charismatic—helped orchestrate elaborate schemes, complementing the modern-day heist-romance storyline. He received a nominated nod for Excellence Award, Actor in a Fantasy Drama at the 24th SBS Drama Awards.
