Born on April 6, 1969 in Busanjin-gu, Busan, South Korea, Kim Won‑hae grew up with a strong passion for performance—joining his high school drama club after discovering joy in entertaining others. He graduated from the Seoul Institute of the Arts, majoring in Theater and Film, and later trained in dance at the Korea National University of Arts. He debuted on stage in 1991 with the musical The Fantasticks, joined the original ensemble of non-verbal hit show Nanta in 1997, and steadily transitioned into screen acting from 1998 onward.

Kim Won‑hae is celebrated for his versatility and strong presence in supporting roles across theater, film, and television. He starred in Nanta and musicals before debuting on screen in Spring in My Hometown (1998).
