Kim Chang‑wan
Kim Chang‑wan studied Agricultural Studies (specializing in Natural Fiber) at Seoul National University, graduating in 1975. Alongside his brothers Kim Chang‑hoon and Kim Chang‑ik, he began composing music in his teens and formed the band “Mui” during his college years.
Career highlights:
Launching his career in 1977 as the lead vocalist and guitarist of the rock band Sanulrim, Kim and his brothers revitalized Korean rock with over ten albums before disbanding in 2008 following his younger brother's passing. He authored books, composed film scores, wrote essays, and in 2008 founded the Kim Chang‑wan Band, releasing albums and collaborating with younger artists like IU. Transitioning into acting in the early 1990s, Kim appeared in notable TV shows and films including Coffee Prince, Behind the White Tower, Queen of Housewives, My Love from the Star, the film Doctor, and later, Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (2016–17), portraying the role of Park Young‑shi, a power‑hungry foster father figure. He’s also hosted radio, theatre, and published literary works .
