Kayla Alpert

Kayla Alpert began her writing journey after earning an AB in English from Harvard in 1991, where she was notably active in photography and editorial work. Following graduation, she relocated to Los Angeles and broke into television writing as a staff writer on the Nickelodeon sketch show All That in 1994, then steadily progressed through the ranks of Hollywood’s writers’ rooms. Always drawn to dark satire and emotionally charged storytelling, her early passion for writing led to a career that spans genres from comedy to gothic drama.

Career highlights:

Alpert has built a prolific career spanning feature films and television. She earned screenplay credit on the hit film Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009), and adapted works like Flowers in the Attic for television. On the TV side, her trajectory includes writing and producing roles on shows like Ally McBeal, LAX, Up All Night, and Code Black. In recent years, she served as executive producer and writer on Netflix’s Wednesday, actually penning two pivotal episodes (3 & 4) of its first season. A true genre chameleon, she seamlessly shifts between sitcom, medical drama, supernatural comedy, and film.
