Gal So Won
Gal So‑Won (갈소원), also romanized Kal So‑Won, was born on 14 August 2006 in Oryu‑dong, Guro, Seoul, South Korea. Active since 2012, she debuted at just six years old in the SBS series Take Care of Us, Captain, before becoming widely recognized for her role as the young Ye‑Seung in the blockbuster film Miracle in Cell No. 7 (2013), one of South Korea's highest‑grossing films. While still a child, she played the younger versions of key characters—most notably, the mermaid Se‑hwa in The Legend of the Blue Sea (2016)—showcasing an ability to anchor emotionally complex, fantasy‑driven narratives. She continues her education at Aewol Middle School in Jeju Island, having previously attended elementary schools in Seoul.
Career Highlights
Gal So‑Won has built a diverse résumé across film and television. Her breakout cinematic performance in Miracle in Cell No. 7 (2013) earned her both critical acclaim and multiple award nominations, including youngest-ever nods for Best New Actress and Best Actress at the Grand Bell Awards. She soon signed with YG Entertainment in 2014 and expanded into television, playing young roles in My Daughter, Geum Sa‑wol and Glamorous Temptation (2015), Doctors and The Legend of the Blue Sea (both 2016), and A Korean Odyssey (2017). Her early involvement in major fantasy (mermaid in Legend), medical, and family melodramas reflects remarkable range for someone so young. Off screen, she’s made special appearances with K-pop acts BigBang (“Blue” intro, MADE Tour 2015) and iKon (“Love Scenario” 2018). Recent roles include Cleaning Up and Tomorrow (both 2022), Delivery Man (2023), and a voice role in Mr. Zoo: The Missing VIP (2020).
