Carla González Vargas is a Mexican-born writer, journalist, director, consultant, and producer. After earning postgraduate credentials in film production and screenwriting at UCLA, she began writing and publishing film-related books—Woody Allen: His Life and Films (2004), The Routes of Mexican Cinema 1990–2006, and Mexican Cinema. She worked as a critic and columnist for outlets like Cine Premiere and Milenio, and contributed to radio and television. In 2015, she directed and produced the documentary Alivio and served as executive producer for the U.S. film Opening Night. In 2016, she co-founded Gato Grande in partnership with MGM (later part of Amazon), eventually based in Los Angeles. Under her leadership, Gato Grande produced Luis Miguel: The Series, the global hit Wednesday, and the Amazon Prime comedy Valiendo madres (2025), among other projects.
